We Can Fight Your Traffic Ticket
If you receive a ticket for speeding, reckless driving or DUI, it is a good idea to consult with an experienced traffic defense lawyer. Getting points on your license or being convicted of a traffic violation can be costly and lead to losing your license. Don't let this happen to you.
I'm attorney John Bitzer and I have defended drivers in southwestern Illinois for more than 30 years. I will attempt to reduce your traffic charge so that you pay smaller fines, receive fewer or no points on your license and stay out of jail. Call my Collinsville office at 618-623-4249 or send me an e-mail. Your consultation is free.
How I Can Help
In general, the more serious your violation, the more points you get on your license. I will try to reduce your charge and when applicable, get you court supervision. In this case, you can choose to pay a fee instead of getting points on your license.
Accumulating points may eventually affect your insurance rate. In most cases, the Illinois Department of Motor Vehicles looks at point accumulation over a two-year period — but your insurance company may have a longer time-span. More serious offenses, such as DUI, can also affect your insurance rate and your ability to be insured.
DUI Defense
In Illinois, drivers are considered legally under the influence if they have a blood-alcohol concentration (BAC) of .08 or more, have used an illegal substance or are impaired by medication. A first DUI conviction is a misdemeanor. Your license will be suspended for six months.
You may request a judicial driving permit to drive to work during the suspension. Or you can have a Monitoring Device Driving Permit (MDDP) issued by a judge so you can have a Breath Alcohol Ignition Interlock Device (BAIID) installed on your vehicle. You are allowed to drive at any time as long as you pass the BAIID's breathalyzer.
