Types of Cases You May Appeal
You can appeal decisions from personal injury and car accident cases, estate disputes, probate cases and criminal defense cases. These kinds of cases quite often end up in higher courts. Don't wait until it is too late to contact a lawyer. There are strict filing deadlines for most appeals.
During an appeal, the appellate court will review the record from the trial court case. An appeal does not start your case over or include new information.
Modifications to Divorce and Family Law Decisions
You may appeal to change parts of a divorce decree. Usual requests include modifications to:
- Child custody and visitation

- Alimony
If you agreed to the terms of a divorce settlement, you usually cannot appeal the settlement. However, you can ask for modification of judgments that arise from the settlement agreement.
